Oh, Danny Boy. It is astounding in hindsight just how much Danny La Rue was able to capitalize on the mainstream. No drag act since has come close to pulling it off to the same degree, all allusions confounded… Even my gran was a fan.

Something about the word “trooper” springs instantly to mind here. With a life spent so much on the stage, one can’t help but ponder on the sheer command and enormous vocabulary of stage etiquette that’s gone to that wig box in the sky with La Rue.
